Unlike past editions, the prize money for the 2020 London Marathon has been reduced from around $313,000 to just over half that amount. The loss of income from the more than 40,000 amateurs who usually register and the withdrawal of many sponsors due to the pandemic are also a factor.
The winner, both male and female, will receive a cheque for 30 thousand dollars (against 55 thousand in the last editions) followed by 15 thousand for the second and 10 thousand for the third, until 2019 the podium paid 30 thousand and 22 thousand. Prize up to the 12th classified, for him 500 dollars against 1000 in the past.
In the case of a world record there will be an additional $125,000 while an additional $10,000 will be reserved for the best three British athletes who cross the finish line.
The figures for the athletes’ fees are unknown.
